Wanderlust Decor Inspiration

4 lange Monate bin ich jetzt schon wieder zuhause und mit jedem Tag wird mein Fernweh wieder größer. Manchmal frag ich mich, ob dieses Gefühl irgendwann komplett verschwindet, oder immer nur besänftigt werden kann, wenn ich weg bin. Na jaaa. Auf jeden Fall habe ich heute ein kleines DIY für euch Weltentdecker, Nie-still-Steher und Abenteurer. Worum es geht, seht ihr auf dem Foto schon und weil ich nicht genau weiß, wie ich das, was da passiert ist, genau in Worte fassen soll, bleibt es wohl auch einfach so stehen. Schaut es euch an, es braucht keinen Namen. 

Lasst uns aber mal schauen, was wir alles so brauchen:

• einen Bilderrahmen. Ich fand einen breiten am besten, weil man hier schön Worte schreiben kann. Funktioniert aber theoretisch mit jedem. (Meiner war übrigens auch von Ikea. Überraschung.)
• eine Karte! Hier funktioniert eigentlich auch jede Art von Karte. Landkarte, Stadtkarte, vielleicht sogar die ganze Weltkarte? Nehmt, was ihr findet! Meine war eine relativ alte Karte von Kreta, ihr könnt aber natürlich auch eine aus dem Internet nehmen und in der richtigen Größe ausdrucken.
• als Leinwand für eure Buchstaben und Wörter könnt ihr auch selbst entscheiden, worauf ihr Lust habt. Ich hab kleine Mini-Tortenspitzen genommen, die ich bei DM gefunden habe. Ihr könntet aber auch Tonpapier benutzen und dieses in Formen schneiden, die euch gefallen. Kreise? Quadrate? Dreiecke? Hunde? KATZEN? Die Wahl ist eure.
• Pinsel und Farbe 

Und obwohl es eigentlich nicht sonderlich kompliziert ist, das Ganze jetzt zusammenzusetzen, zeig ich's euch trotzdem.

Anfangen solltet ihr mit den Buchstaben auf den Tortenspitzen. 

Dafür braucht ihr jetzt ein bisschen Wasser- oder Acrylfarbe und einen Pinsel. Dann nehmt ihr den Pinsel, taucht ihn in die Farbe und malt einen Buchstaben auf die Tortenspitze.

Simpel, aber effektiv. Falls ihr euch fragt, was die Nummer daneben soll, dann kann ich euch auch dazu was erklären. Ihr kennt doch sicher noch Scrabble, oder? Bei Scrabble steht neben den Buchstaben immer die Punktezahl, die euch ein Buchstabe im Nachhinein bei der Bilanz bringt. Eine Tafel dazu findet ihr auch ganz leicht im Internet.

Wenn ihr dann alle Tortenspitzen mit Buchstaben versehen habt, müsst ihr diese erstmal kurz trocknen lassen. Bei Wasserfarben geht das aber relativ schnell.


Danach geht es dann aber ganz schnell weiter bis das Ganze innerhalb einer Minute fertig an der Wand hängen kann. (Außer ihr seid so wie ich, bekommt das alles in einer Nacht hin und braucht dann Wochen bis ihr einen Nagel in die verdammte Wand schlagt um das Ding dann endlich aufzuhängen.)

Legt eure Buchstaben mit der Vorderseite nach unten auf die Glasscheibe und achtet darauf, dass ihr sie spiegelverkehrt auflegt, sonst steht da am Ende doof anstatt food, was sicher auch nicht das ist, was ihr wollt. (Wieso food? Stellt euch eine kulinarische Stadtkarte in eurer Küche vor! Jaaa.)

Die Karte müsst ihr jetzt noch durch Falten, Schneiden oder Kleben in die richtige Form bringen und sie über die Buchstaben legen. Seid dabei vorsichtig, dass die Buchstaben nicht verrutschen. Falls euch das passiert, könnt ihr sie auch mit etwas Kleber auf der Karte befestigen.

Dann den Karton des Bilderrahmens wieder auflegen und tadaaaa! Euer Werk ist vollendet. Ist nicht wirklich schwer, aber ich finde, es ist eine süße Deko Idee für den Weltenbummler von heute.

It's already month four that I'm home now after I've had the time of my life travelling Europe, the UK, Ireland and Iceland last year. For a person who also got to find out that she is an inconditional wanderer, it was hard to realise that there will be no more major travelling in the next time. 

Anyway, I found a way to bring a bit more of the world into my bedroom with this little wall decor thingy. For me and all of you wanderlusters. 

I don't quite know how to call this, but let's have a look at the things you'll need if you want to recreate this.

• a picture frame. Take whatever shape your heart desires, but I found a wide, rectangular one a good shape to actually write words in.
• a map. Again, take any map you like. Your favourite country, your favourite city, your favourite part of a city, maybe the whole world? I took an old one of Crete, but you could also print one out from the internet if you don't have a good one on hand. 
• for a canvas for your letters you can get creative as well. I took some small paper lace doilies which I got in the baking section of a drug store. I thought they looked cute and add a special touch to your picture. But you might as well use some paper and cut it in different shapes. Circles? Squares? Triangles? Cats? DOGS? Create whatever shape you like. 
• a brush and some colour. 

Now, even though this isn't really that hard to put together, I'm going to show you anyway. Because I'm a nice person. 

Let's start with the brush and the colour and the doiles. 

I know, quite hard to imagine, but we're going to dip the brush into our colour (use watercolour or acrylic for this) and then slowly create a letter on our doily. If you're wondering what that number one is doing there I shall explain this. You remember scrabble, right? Now, in scrabble each letter has a number which indicates how much credit this letter will give you once you've finished the word. I thought it looked cool and would probably even look better on a square "canvas". 

Once you've finished drawing all of your letters, you want to let them dry for a bit. Make sure you let them dry completely, though. You don't want to smear anything. 

Now, that they're dry you can acutally put this whole thing together and hang it on a wall in less than a minute. (Unless you're like me and you put this thing together in one night, and then take weeks to actually hang it up.)

However, let's not talk about my motivation problems, but let's focus on the next steps. 

Arrange your letters upside down and make sure you put them in the right order, to not spell something you actually don't mean to spell.

Afterwards fold, cut or glue your map into the right size and shape and then put it on top, make sure your letters don't slide around and put the rest of the picture frame together. Voilà, you're done!

Street Food Festival Tour

Wenn ich eine Sache nennen müsste, die mich glücklicher macht, als sie eigentlich sollte, dann wäre das definitiv Essen. Ich bin ein riesen Foodie und ich habe absolut kein Problem damit, das hier zuzugeben. Auch wenn ich mich in den letzten Monaten viel mehr in die vegane Richtung entwickelt hab, gibt es doch einige Dinge, die mich in dieser Essenswelt so reizen.
Als ich letzes Jahr noch viel Zeit in England verbracht habe, war ich auf relativ vielen Street Food Festivals, selbst wenn es diese Stände sowieso auf sehr vielen Märkten in London zu finden gab. Eines in Manchester ist mir vor allem im Kopf hängen geblieben, weshalb ich mich sehr drüber gefreut habe, dass es sowas jetzt auch mal bei uns gibt. Und mit "bei uns" meine ich nicht unbedingt Deutschland. Schaut man in größere Städte, Berlin und dergleichen, dann sieht man solche Festivals auch, aber dass es selbst in unserer Weinmetropole mal sowas gibt, das ist schon was Besonderes.

Also ging es auf nach Landau, einer süßen Stadt um die Ecke, und wir konnten eintauchen in Burritos, frittiertes Eis und die besten Schokofrüchte, die ich je essen durfte.
Frittiertes Eis? Jap. So gut wie es sich anhört, war es dann noch nicht mal unbedingt, aber jedem das Seine, richtig. Die Eiskugel, eingepackt in eine Mischung, die aussah wie Cornflakes-Krümel, wird in einen Teig geworfen, und dann geht es ab in die Fritteuse. Nettes Konzept, aber den Gaumenorgasmus, der mir versprochen wurde, hat sich dann irgendwie nicht wirklich ereignet.

Dafür war der Burrito der Burrito Bande umso besser. Mit Beef, Chicken oder vegetarisch, super super lecker. Wenn ich mal wieder nach Frankfurt oder Köln komme, dann werd ich denen definitiv mal wieder einen Besuch abstatten.

Uuuuund die Schokofrüchte, halleluja! Live vor deinen Augen zusammengesetzt mit flüssiger Schoki in Vollmilch, Zartbitter oder auch in weiß, und dann dürfen natürlich noch Toppings drauf. Schokistreußel, Kekskrümel, M&Ms, Marshmallows, und und und. Eine relativ simple Idee, aber so so lecker!

Für mich hätte das Ganze etwas internationaler sein können. Pulled Pork oder Beef und Burger waren so ziemlich die Hauptakteure, worüber ich mich auch gar nicht beschweren will, aber ich hätte mir trotzdem ein paar mehr Küchen gewünscht. Indisch, zum Beispiel. Mh. Das ist jetzt schon Motzerei auf höchstem Niveau, denn alles in allem war es ein schönes Festival, trotz schlechtem Wetter.

If I were to mention one thing that makes me happier than it actually should, it would have to be food. Yaaaas, I'm a huge food fan and I'm not even trying to deny it. Even though I sort of got into the whole vegan trend recently, I'm not in a position yet where I want to label myself and there are still a few things out in this food world I'm curious to try. I know, it's not a good excuse, but I'm working on it.
However, having spent quite a lot of time in the UK last year I attended quite a good amount of food festivals, even if there are tons of these food stalls on markets all over London anyway. It was still fun to see international food brought into one city and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Now, back in Germany I haven't really seen a lot of these festivals or food stalls in my area. Admittedly, my town isn't quite the metropolis in any way, and I'm sure you can see similar festivals in bigger cities. Due to that reason I was super excited to hear that there would be a Street Food Festival in a town nearby.

Off we went on a rainy Sunday to enjoy some good food. It all started off with an incredible burrito. That one was vegan indeed, but we also tried the Chicken Mango one. Filled with rice, black beans, lettuce and tomatoes. YUM.
That course was followed by some fried ice-cream. Yes you heard me right, my friend. Fried ice-cream. How's that even possible, right? The ice-cream itself was coated in a weird crushed-cornflakes like mixture, and then got thrown into a cocoa batter. After frying it for what felt like 3 minutes, it was ready to be devoured. The result? It was okay, I'm got going to lie, but it wasn't what they promised. The batter could've been sweeter and was incredibly greasy. The ice-cream itself was good, but altogether it wasn't the foodgasm we've expected. That part was a bit disappointing, but then we found chocolate covered fruit skewers and god, that made our day.

They basically created them in front of our eyes, covered them in the chocolate of your choice (IT WAS STILL HOT ON YOUR FRUITS) and sprinkled toppings, well, on top. Chocolate Chips, marshmallows, M&Ms, Cookie Crumbles, ... The list goes on. It is a quite simple idea, but so so good.

So despite the rain it was still worth going and I hope we'll get some more similar festivals in the future. It wasn't quite as good as the festivals or food stalls I've seen in London, but I guess you can't really compare London with a small town in the south-west of Germany, right? Maybe get some more cuisines instead of 10 stalls which sell pulled pork or beef. That got sort of boring after the first ones we saw. But anyway, it was a good festival with good food and good people. Basta.

Yup, that's the ice-cream.
